Please read through the whole manual as examples and notes are given that will make life easier for you and enable you to use The Jewellery Shopkeeper's abilities to the fullest !!
Tips, Notes, Warnings and Important paragraphs are highlighted with a margin flag.
The Table-of-Contents (at the front) and the Index (at the back) will help you to find the information you are looking for.
We tried to lay the manual out in the sequence you will most likely require the subject matter in, but this is not always possible, so sometimes you may want to skip sections and then maybe refer back to them later.
To specify a path through the menus, the command letter, followed by the menu item name, and separated by commas, is used. U(tilities, S(et parameters, C(ontrol registers - means that you can highlight Utilities on the Outer Menu and press enter, then highlight Set parameters on the Utilities Menu and press enter, and so on - OR - simply, from the Outer Menu, type USC as a command.
Sometimes a password is required to pass a certain stage when navigating the menus - these will NOT be noted in these instructions due to variability amongst different users.
In some places in this manual the following standard is used: <Enter> means press the enter key on some keyboards called the return key and a description in capitals inside quotation marks represents the description of the input field you need to enter. It is sometimes followed by a hyphen and help on the input. 'REFERENCE NUMBER/LETTERS' - enter the customer's account number or the first few letters of the customer's surname.
Always <Enter> or press the down-arrow key to go to the next input field.
The <F1> key will display a help screen. (<F1> means press the F1 key on your keyboard). The help displayed with the <F1> key varies depending on which part of the program you are using.
See also section on "Problems & Solutions" at page 217 in this manual.
Short password - in order to prevent the unauthorised changing of data certain facilities require a password of either 2 or 4 characters.

These passwords may be changed or shortened. A hidden password, accessed via the U(tilities, eX(pand option, lets you in to set up a new password.

- If you just press enter, the list will only include Merchandise, and will start from the first code that is available.
- Type the letter A and press enter and the Quick Finder will list all Standard Stock codes.
- Type a space and then a word, and the list will only include Merchandise that is available and includes the word (that was typed) in the description.
- Type the first letter and a space, or both letters, of a group code, and then the word to search for, and the list will instantly start from that group code onwards.
The search won't automatically span between merchandise and standard stock codes. Specify the group code, if known, to speed up the search.
NOTE: The full Finder (D(ata, F(inder) gives much more options for a selective search, and it gives more information and statistics on the find, too.
