Getting from one place to another in the Shopkeeper is both simple for the beginner and fast for the more advanced user. And, in addition, a automatic "power drive" method is available for running obscure functions at a single keystroke. The three methods are detailed below:
The Jewellery Shopkeeper offers a system of highlight-bar menus with "pull-down" highlight-bar sub-menus. To use these you press the cursor keys (these are the up/down/left/right arrow keys either on the numeric keypad or on their own) to highlight the option you require, and then <Enter>.
<Esc> "backs you out" to the previous menu.
Each of the highlight-bar menu options has a unique initial letter. Typing that letter will achieve the same as highlighting the option and pressing enter. Thus, if from the outer menu you type "STP" you will get S(ales, T(ransactions, P(ayments and you will be prompted for the customer's name/number.
As usual, <Esc> "backs you out" to the previous menu. Once you are in the "Outer" menu, <Esc> has no effect. With this knowledge it can be understood that from almost anywhere in the Shopkeeper, if you <Esc> at least 4 times you will be at the outer menu - ready to accept your new commands.
Each of the function keys (F2 through F10) can be defined with a line of characters. These characters will be typed each time the respective function key is pressed. The Esc and Enter keystrokes can also be specified in the line of characters by using the back-slash (\) and semicolon (;) keys respectively so that, for example, "\\\STP" programmed into the F4 key will mean that, from wherever you are in the system, pressing F4 will take you to S(ales, T(ransactions, P(ayments.
In addition to the F2 through F10 keys, Shift-F1 and shift-F3 through shift-F10 and Ctrl-F1 and Ctrl-F2 can also be programmed.
